Varsity Boys Basketball Preview

NOV. 12 -- Mount Pisgah Boys Basketball begins the season excited to build on a successful 2017-2018 campaign that saw the Patriots finish with 14 wins and an appearance in the GHSA State Playoff Tournament.

This year's team features a strong group of returning players who made significant contributions last year, including sophomores JoJo Peterson, Nick Speros, Garrett Sutherland, and Chase Tucker, junior Chandler Minton, and senior Quinn Richey. The Patriots will also be bolstered by the addition of two players new to Mount Pisgah. Christian Major (Jr.) is a strong guard who transferred from Eagle's Landing Christian Academy and Nate Gordon (So.) is a skilled forward joining the Patriots after spending his freshman year at Norcross High School. Richey led Mount Pisgah in scoring last year at 19 points per game and has high expectations for the team this season. "I'm very excited going into the season. With the team we have, I think the sky is the limit for us."

The Patriots will be tested early and often by a difficult schedule featuring non-conference games against some of the top schools in the area, including Blessed Trinity, Wesleyan, and Lovett in addition to Region 6-A matchups against ever-tough opponents like Saint Francis, Walker, and newcomer to the league, Mount Bethel Christian Academy. Head Coach Patrick Johnson, entering his 2nd year at the helm, welcomes the challenge. "Our team has a lot of good pieces this year but our success will depend on how quickly and consistently we can learn to compete together. We'll have plenty of opportunities to measure ourselves against some really good teams, and I'm excited to see how we respond."

The Patriots open the season on Tuesday, November 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Drum versus Centennial.
